Rail sector specialist Alstom has appointed a new managing director for its operations in East Asia.

Toby Tiberghien, the company’s former Turnkey and Rolling Stock Director for East Asia, will be responsible for delivering company’s Motion strategy in the region.

Described as having “vast experience in industrial, financial and site management functions”, Tiberghien will also manage the commercial and operational performance of the company’s railway projects in the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Tiberghien, who is based in Bangkok, Thailand, said, “East Asian market is diverse and dynamic, presenting unique rail transit development opportunities. I am confident that our cluster is well-positioned to continue contributing towards the more sustainable and innovative mobility standards within this part of the world.”

An industrial engineering graduate from the Lyon National Institute of Applied Sciences in France, Tiberghien started his career in the Chinese energy sector in 2004.

He joined Alstom in 2011 and held a number of positions before serving as the operations director for the company’s former China and East Asia cluster from 2018 to 2021.

“Notably, he led the inaugural launch of Citadis tramway in the Chinese market and oversaw various local rolling stock and components joint ventures,” said Alstom, adding, “Through each of these roles, Toby has gained a track record of driving customer centricity and operational rigor to deliver solid project results.”

Tiberghien takes over the managing director role from Olivier Loison, who has now become Alstom’s new managing director for India.
