As part of the Cook County I-75 widening project between Adel and Lenox in Georgia, US, the Scruggs Company is using a Gomaco paving train to construct 202.5 km of additional lanes.

"We've completed 159 km of lane additions so far and we've achieved excellent smoothness," said John Romaine, concrete division manager at Scruggs. "Our average results are in the 24 mm range which means we haven't had to grind at all on this project.

"We have a further 43.5 km of lane additions to go and we plan on having zero grinding on that section too," confirmed Mr Romaine.

Scruggs is using a Gomaco PS-2600 placer/spreader and a four track GHP-2800 slipform paver for the main 7.6 m wide, 305 mm deep pave and a four track Commander III for the addition of a 3.7 m wide add-on lane.

Additional equipment being used on the project includes a Gomaco Smoothness Indicator (GSI) and a T/C-600 texture/cure machine.
