Strabag makes sustainability pledge

Premium Content

Construction and technology group Strabag has announced that it will become climate neutral along its entire value chain by 2040.

“The construction sector accounts for half of the global raw material demand and causes 38% of greenhouse gas emissions worldwide,” says Thomas Birtel, CEO of Strabag.

“We in the construction industry will have to reinvent how we work, our processes and our materials, if we want to achieve the European and global climate targets. Doing business as usual is not an option that we can afford, neither from an environmental nor from an economic point of view.”

In light of this commitment the company is evolving its corporate slogan to place even greater focus on building sustainably and creating progress. The new slogan is: Strabag – Work On Progress.

Strabag says that ways it is currently working to help reduce emissions include building projects creating the walls using 3D concrete printing directly on site; asphalt that is recycled and reused in the construction of new roads and conveyor belts that generate their own electricity. The company added that it is currently working on 250 innovation and 400 sustainability projects across the entire group.
