Contractor turns to Atlas Copco for breakers and cutters to enable it to hit bridge demolition deadline.

Contractor Philipp Halter was given just 48-hours to demolish the southern section of the A 100 Spandau dam bridge crossing in Berlin, Germany.

Using seven Volvo excavators fitted with Atlas Copco hydraulic breakers and hydraulic combi-cutters, work was completed on time for the road to be reopened on schedule.

Three MB 1700 hydraulic breakers were used for preparing the bridge foundations while an SB 302 breaker was used for the less demanding preparatory and finishing work in the confined areas of the bridge.

The main demolition work was carried out using two Atlas Copco hydraulic combi-cutters, a CC 1700 U and a CC 2500 U, both equipped with universal jaws, which crushed the concrete and cut the rebar of the bridge in a single movement.

Chief executive of Philipp Halter, Christopher Halter said, "We cannot make compromises with regards reliability, and the performance of the Atlas Copco products on this job has convinced me to the extent we'll definitely rely on Atlas Copco products for future contracts."

With the bridge demolished on schedule, work is now progressing on one of the most significant road projects in the capital.
