The 12-year contract was assigned through a tender and is said to be a part of a scheme drawn up by the Croatian government and HROTE to accelerate the production of renewable electricity and contribute to the European decarbonisation targets.

Both wind farm projects will entail an investment of nearly €100 million. Acciona says that the wind farms will have 16 Nordex wind turbines, each with a planned capacity of 4.5MW, that will produce 203 gigawatts per hour (GWh). Planned to be operational in 2024, the two wind farms will aim to reduce CO² emissions by 135,000 tonnes a year.

Opor and Boraja II will be constructed in the Split-Dalmacia and Šibenik-Knin regions and will join the 30MW Jelinak wind farm complex that is operated by Acciona Energía.
