Austria-based construction giant Strabag has acquired German contractor Stumpp Group, which specialises in road construction and civil engineering.

Stumpp Group, based in Balingen in southwestern Germany, has an annual turnover of around €90 million. Strabag has not revealed how much it has paid to acquire the business.

It will become part of Strabag’s Cologne operation and the firm said adding Stumpp Group would enhance its regional presence in the Black Forest and Lake Constance, and expand its capacities in the growing market for infrastructure projects.

Stumpp Group also specialises in earthworks and sewer and pipeline construction and operates asphalt mixing plants, as well as holding investments in gravel works.

Strabag said this meant it is also securing long-term access to raw materials as part of the deal.

Jörg Rösler, member of the management board of Strabag SE responsible for the North + West segment, said, “We are pleased to welcome a well-established family business with an experienced workforce to our Group. This partnership is an important step towards further strengthening our infrastructure expertise both regionally and nationally.

Arne Stumpp, managing partner and majority shareholder of the Stumpp Group, added, “Joining forces with the Strabag Group not only secures all our employees’ jobs but also creates a strong basis for the continued growth of our company, which has been firmly established and recognised in the market for decades.”
