‘Largest homebuilder’ in US invests in 3D printing robotics company

D.R. Horton, the largest homebuilder by volume in the US, is making a ‘strategic investment’ in 3D-printing robotics company Apis Cor, based in Florida, US.

Apis Cor made the announcement, noting the “two companies plan to work together on a multi-unit construction project in South Florida after the finalization of the new 3D-printed wall system.”
D.R. Horton’s construction team will provide advisory support on the project, Apis Cor said.
Brad Conlon, D.R. Horton’s senior VP of business development, said his team was “impressed with what Apis Cor has achieved and demonstrated so far with their mobile, proprietary printer ‘Frank’.”
‘Frank’ is a 3D-printing robot capable of printing walls for building ranging from 1,000 to 100,000 sq ft (93 to 929m2), according to Apis Cor. The company said, in some applications, the machine can relocate to a new printing area, calibrate, perform a dry run, and identify positions for vertical reinforcement in less than 25 minutes.
