Turner-Wohlsen JV to build US$6bn AI data centre

US-based cloud computing firm and AI hyperscaler CoreWeave will invest more than US$6 billion to develop an artificial intelligence data centre in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, US, with Turner Construction and Wohlsen Construction awarded the main construction contract.

The initial phase of the project will deliver a 100MW facility tailored for high-performance AI workloads, with the option to expand to 300MW.
CoreWeave said it expects to create 600 construction jobs during the build, alongside 70 permanent operational roles at launch and up to 175 full-time positions as the site scales.
The facility will be one of the first large-scale AI-specific data centres in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Chirisa Technology Parks and Machine Investment Group are co-developing the site, with CoreWeave acting as tenant and lead operator. The companies said they plan to collaborate on workforce recruitment and community engagement during and after construction.
Announced during a CEO roundtable with US President Donald Trump at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit this month, the investment marks one of CoreWeave’s largest commitments to date.
CoreWeave operates 33 data centres globally, 28 of which are in the US. It describes itself as an “AI hyperscaler,” with a platform designed to meet increasing demand for GPU-based cloud computing. The company said the Lancaster site will serve as a hub for its Mid-Atlantic operations and contribute to long-term US competitiveness in emerging technologies.
A construction timeline has not been disclosed.
