Spanish infrastructure company Acciona has won a deal to design, finance, build, operate and maintain a 330km-long power transmission line in Peru.

The project involves a €250 million investment for a 30-year concession on the 220kV power transmission line as well as the construction of two new substations (Quencoro Nueva and Onocora) and the expansion of three existing substations (Suriray, Quencoro, and Tintaya Nueva).

Scheduled to start operations in 2028, the project will increase the transmission to the electricity to the south of Peru, covering the city of Cusco’s entire demand, of which only a part is met currently.

Acciona said the project would also improve the reliability of the existing transmission systems in the southeastern area of Peru’s National Interconnected Electrical System (SEIN).

The two new substations will reduce the region’s current overload and congestion problems and will also allow the connection of future renewable energy generation plants.
