Mace to build 30-storey London tower

UK-based construction company Mace has been appointed by Hertshten Properties to build 85 Gracechurch Street, a 30-storey mixed-use tower in the City of London.
The Woods Bagot-designed scheme will replace a 1930s office building within the Leadenhall Conservation Area, adjacent to the Grade II listed Leadenhall Market. It will provide around 235,000 sq ft of office space alongside event facilities, a 270-degree terrace and showering, changing, and secure bicycle parking facilities.

The all-electric building is targeting a BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) Outstanding rating and will incorporate energy-efficient systems, urban greening, natural ventilation and 440 cycle parking spaces, including an automated visitor hub.
Archaeological remains of London’s first Roman Basilica, uncovered during excavations, will be on display in the finished building.
The project also includes a reinstated pedestrian route between Gracechurch Street and Lime Street Passage to improve access to Leadenhall Market.
Mace is now in the pre-construction phase, with completion expected in 2030. It not reveal the value of its contract for the work.
