The Port of Long Beach has unveiled plans to replace the ageing Gerald Desmond Bridge. Constructed in the 1960s, the bridge was not designed for present demands and is obsolete. The US$ 1.1 billion dollar project will improve traffic flow, increase safety and support, on average, 4000 jobs a year for the five years of construction. Video: Port of Long Beach.
