The UK government has outlined plans to undertake the biggest expansion in nuclear power plant construction in 70 years, as it focuses on energy security.

Britain has opened a competition to develop small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs), such as those being developed by Rolls-Royce, as it launched its new Great British Nuclear body designed to help drive the expansion of projects in the country.

Plans will see 95% of Great Britain’s energy become low carbon by 2030.
