The new depot plan calls for 41,000m2 floorplan, and it will serve about 50 trams. Included in the design is space for daily tram maintenance, cleaning and repair work.

The depot will be built by a consortium with Skanska serving as main contractor. The joint venture also includes project owner Helsinki’s City Transport, two Sweden-based engineering consultants (Rejlers and Sweco), and two Finland-based companies: foundation specialists Sipti Infra and designers Arkkitehtityöhuone APRT.

“The project has high environmental ambitions,” added Skanska. “The aim for the depot building is to be certified according to BREEAM level Outstanding.”

Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2025 and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2029.
