Commissioned by Runtu Mining, the project is also the first in Africa to adopt Sany’s EP+F model – a package that combines engineering, procurement, and financing. Sany says the approach reduces the financial burden on customers and improves access to clean energy in emerging markets.

Sany Silicon Energy is a division of the larger Sany Group – Sany is one of the world’s biggest consturction equipment manufacturers as ranked by International Construction’s Yellow Table.

Construction will involve the installation of 710 high-efficiency photovoltaic modules, along with inverters and mounting systems. The facility is due to be connected to the grid before the end of 2025 under a fast-tracked construction plan.

Sany said the project will help alleviate Zimbabwe’s ongoing power shortages and support local industry. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Zimbabwe had 70MW of installed solar capacity by the end of 2024, up from 46MW a year earlier.
