Punjab government to initiate major bridge reconstruction project

The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has announced the construction and rehabilitation of ten critically deteriorated bridges across the province.

The initiative is part of the “Restoring the Struggle and Prosperous Punjab” programme, which aims to improve the connectivity and safety of the region.

According to the Directorate General Public Relations - Government of Punjab, the Provincial Minister for Construction and Communications, Malik Soheb Ahmed Bharath, has confirmed that the project will commence shortly, targeting the ten most dilapidated bridges in Punjab.

The undertaking will see eight bridges reconstructed with an investment of Rs 20 crore 30 lakh (US$203 million), while comprehensive plans are in place for the remaining two in Lahore and Jhelum, involving the Department of Engineering for execution.

The bridge on the drain channel near Sialkot International Airport Link Road is scheduled for reconstruction within 60 days at a cost of Rs 30 million (US$359,000).

Additionally, the bridge on Pind Dadan Khan and Lila Road in Jhelum will be constructed over 90 days with a budget of Rs 30 million (US$359,000).

The project covers various districts including Jhang, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, and Khushab, addressing critical infrastructure needs.
