A consortium made up of Finnish contractor Lemminkäinen, A-Insinöörit Suunnittelu Oy and Saanio & Riekkola Oy has been awarded a contract to construct the Rantaväylä tunnel in Tampere.

The 2.3 km tunnel will be developed at a cost of €180.3 million, including the construction of graded interchanges in Santalahti and Naistenlahti.

It is hoped that the construction of the Rantaväylä tunnel will improve the flow of traffic on Highway 12. Construction work will begin this month and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2017.
