US-based fuel injection systems developer and manufacturer Woodward has unveiled its new product series intended for P2X fuels, including ethanol, methanol and ammonia.

According to Woodward, the new injectors have now been implemented into designs for both medium- and high-pressure dual fuel applications.

“Our purpose at Woodward is to design and deliver energy control solutions that our partners count on to power a clean future,” said Michael Willmann, director of Engineering, Large Engine Systems, at Woodward

The new medium pressure Injection (MPI) product line features a direct actuated technology for port fuel injection or medium-pressure direct injection. The range supports different fuels and combustion strategies, including methanol, ethanol or ammonia, and gaseous fuels (hydrogen) with electronically-controlled common rail tech operating at up to 250 bar.

The injectors can be customized to match any engine requirement in terms of nozzle positioning, fuel inlet and packaging.

The high-pressure dual fuel (HPDF) product line features a twin nozzle design, with one side for ammonia or methanol injection up to 700 bar. The other side is for diesel injection, used as a pilot ignition or as a fuel backup.

The diesel side is offered with mechanical injection (pump line nozzle, or PLN) or a common rail system. The twin-needle dual fuel injector is described as being easier to integrate into a cylinder head compared to two separate injectors.

The modular approach enables adaptation of the design to match individual customer requirements.

At the SMM show in Hamburg earlier in the year, Woodward also presented its SOGAV gas admission valve range, which is now validated for use with hydrogen and ammonia.
