Volvo takes wraps off Tier 4 interim machines

Volvo used last week's Samoter exhibition to unveil its latest loaders, excavators and articulated dump trucks (ADTs), all of which feature low emission Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB diesel engines. Also new from the company is its B-series backhoe loaders.

In the case of Volvo's new G-series wheeled loaders, the new Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB engines accompany a +20% increase in lifting force and +10% improvement in breakout force. The new engines also offer more torque at low revs, which help reduce fuel consumption by up to -15% compared to the F-series machines.

Standard features include Volvo's Optishift driveline system, which improves operator comfort and reduces fuel consumption, and which incorporates its reverse by braking system. A roll over protective structure (ROPS)/ falling object protective structure (FOPS) cab is standard.

The F-series ADTs meanwhile are up to +4% more efficient than the E-series, thanks to their new engines. Features include an articulated steering system and Volvo's automatic traction control system, which prevents the driver from leaving the hauler permanently in all-wheel drive mode, reducing fuel consumption and mechanical wear. A ROPS/FOPS cab is also standard.

The D-Series excavators also include a ROPS cab as standard, while the automatic idling system, combined with advanced hydraulics and the high torque Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB engine helps reduce fuel consumption.

Improvements to the B-Series backhoe loader, which is not a Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB machine yet include a large cab, offering +15% more space and +30% more glass than its predecessor. High torque, fuel-efficient engines are an important feature, as is the wide range of attachments Volvo is able to offer.
