Vinci signs MoU for US$ 600 million Vietnamese road

24 June 2010

Vinci Construction Grands Projects has signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Vietnamese infrastructure concessionaire, De Ca Investment JSC, for the construction of the Ca Pass tunnel and road project in Vietnam. The scheme is worth US$ 600 million.

Located on the RN 1A, the main north-south corridor between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, the scheme calls for the widening of a 9 km stretch of road and the building of a new 11 km stretch that will included two tunnels (5.5 km and 350 m long). Three bridges with a total length of 1.26 km will also be built, as well as 4 km of approach roads. The new road will replace a dangerous mountain pass that currently forms part of the RN 1A.

In addition to the provisional agreement with Vinci, Deo Ca Investment JSC has signed three other MoUs as part of the scheme. Consultant and project management company Egis will carry out studies relating to the scheme, inspection specialist Apave will undertake monitoring and quality control, and banks Crédit Agricole and Société Générale will finance the scheme.

All four are, like Vinci, French companies, and the agreements were signed in the presence of France's Secretary of State for Transport, Dominique Bussereau as well as Vietnam's Minister of Construction, Nguyen Hong Quan.
