11 June 2010

A joint venture between Vinci Construction UK and BAM Nuttall has been awarded a UK£ 700 million (€ 844 million) contract by Transport for London (TfL) to upgrade Victoria tube (underground) station.

Vinci's share of the contract is UK£ 570 million (€ 684 million), while BAM Nutall will receive UK£ 130 million (€ 160 million).

Victoria tube station is considered to be one of the busiest and most congested on the London Underground network, serving 80 million passengers every year.

The Vinci/BAM Nuttall JV will reconfigure Victoria station, creating a brand new ticket hall, doubling in size the existing southern ticket hall, and installing new entrances, nine new escalators and step free access.

Construction of the first phase is due to begin in 2011 and will be completed in 2016. The remainder of the upgrade works will be completed by 2018.

At the end of last year (2009) a Vinci/BAM Nuttall JV won a € million (UK£ 250 million) contract from TfL to upgrade Tottenham Court Road tube station.
