VIDEO: The CE-100
17 August 2010
This year's CE-100 ranking of Europe's 100 largest construction companies illustrates the impact the recession has had on the region. Although there has been little change at the top of the ranking, smaller companies, particularly from the UK have seen their placings sink compared to last year.
Among the steepest fallers are the UK house builders, while companies moving up the rankings have included contractors focussed on the oil & gas industries, as well as some of the medium-sized German contractors.
Although the 2010 league table illustrates that the industry is suffering from the effects of the recession, with overall revenues and profitability down compared to last year, the CE-100 seems to have weathered the storm reasonably well. Revenues this year, based on 2009 financial results, fell back to the levels seen two years ago. However, construction output across Europe has fallen by about -12% over the same period.
