Perkins has unveiled the first of its engines to meet the forthcoming Tier 4 Final emissions legislation. Among the models on display at Intermat is the 7 litre 1206F-E70TA, which can produce up to 255 kW.

The company has used a combination of aftertreatment systems to meet emissions legislation, with a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), diesel particulate filter (DPF) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) packaged in a dingle module. Perkins says it has focussed on ease of installation for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)with flexible inlet and outlet options, pre-installed electronics and Diesel Exhaust Fuel (DEF) lines hook ups.

Perkins Tier 4 product marketing manager, Daniel Clayton said, "There's not much that the OEM needs to do to fit it. It's a very simple system to install."

He added that fluid consumption - fuel and DEF combined - was about 5% lower than on the previous models.

The system features passive regeneration, meaning the machine operator does not need to take any action to periodically clean the DPF of particles. The DPF also doesn't require any periodic servicing, which Perkins says reduces the cost of maintenance over the life of the machine.
