This was the moment the Hongqi Bridge at the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station in the Barkam county in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, collapsed on 11 November 2025.

Officials from Barkam country confirmed to Chinese state media that there had been no casualties reported.

Officials from Barkam country confirmed to Chinese state media that there had been no casualties reported.

Traffic controls were immediately imposed on the bridge following a patrol on Monday 10 November that discovered cracks in the road surface at the bridge head and slope.

The 758-metre span Hongqi bridge, was completed earlier this year, according to a social media post by state-owned contractor Sichuan Road & Bridge Group.

It is thought at this stage that worsening conditions on the mountainside, including landslides, led to the partial collapse of the bridge.
