VIDEO: Growth maintained for top 50 manufacturers

14 April 2009

The results of iC's 2009 Yellow Table survey of the world's 50 largest construction equipment manufacturers show the industry kept up the growth rates of the last three years, with revenues rising +18% to US$ 168 billion. However, there were some interesting changes in the rankings, with Asia's manufacturers taking strides up the table.

Although the top three manufacturers - Caterpillar, Komatsu and Terex - remained in the same positions they have held for the last five years, Hitachi jumped two places over Volvo and Liebherr to no. 4. One of the key reasons for this is the appreciation of the Yen last year, up from an arguably artificially low level.

Other climbers included Sandvik Mining & Construction, which climbed up the top 10, overtaking John Deere, while Atlas Copco made it into the top 10 for the first time, replacing JCB.
