26 May 2009
Netherland's-based architect UNStudio has won the international competition to design a new 110 m-high hotel in Frankfurt, Germany for Vivico Real Estate.
The Grand Hyatt Tower will house a five-star-plus hotel, with 405 rooms and suites, a ballroom, spa, various restaurants, a lobby bar and a public Sky Lounge on the top floor. There is also the possibility of an adjacent congress center.
The hotel tower consists of 30 floors, with a floor area of 54560 m2 for the hotel and plinth, and forms part of the Skyline Plaze development.
It will be located opposite another Vivico-owned building, the under construction Tower 185, a 50-storey, 204 m-high mixed-use tower due for completion in 2011. Tower 185 marks the entrance to the Europaviertel (European quarter) and is located next to the Skyline Plaza.
The Europaviertel forms part of the city's regeneration efforts. The first residential buildings were completed earlier this year, with two more to follow in 2010.
Overall, in the first phase approximately 780 houses are planned. The construction of the first office building, headquarters of Germany's BNP Paribas, started in late 2008 and is expected to be complete by mid-2010.
