UK retailer Marks & Spencer has announced plans to invest £340 million (US$547 million) in an automated distribution centre in central England.

M&S said the project would create 2,000 construction jobs, with another 1,000 jobs created permanently.

The company, which is currently recovering from a cyberattack in April, said the 1.3 million sq ft facility based at Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, will open in 2029.

The news follows an announcement earlier in the year to open a new 390,000 sq ft distribution centre at Avonmouth in Bristol, serving stores in the Midlands, South-west England and South Wales.

M&S three main capital investment priorities remain supply chain, store rotation and renewal, and digital & technology.
