Two firms to supervise design and construction of major Hong Kong innovation hub

Consultants Halcrow and Aecom have won a consultancy agreement in joint venture for the first phase of the San Tin Technopole innovation hub in Hong Kong, China.
The two companies will be responsible for design review, detailed design, tendering construction supervision and engineering infrastructure works for roads, bridges, drainage, waterworks, reservoirs and a common utility tunnel at the 250-hectare development.
The San Tin Technopole will sit in Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis, near its border with mainland China and is intended to become an international innovation and technology centre with a mix of technology parks and residential.
Jacobs, which owns Halcrow, said the project would adopt integrated low-carbon infrastructure with the aim of reaching carbon neutrality goals before 2050 and leverage digital strategies such as building information modelling and digital twins.
The project for Hong Kong’s Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) will be executed under multiple phases and the first population and business intake is expected in 2031.
