Trump’s US$ 137 billion construction ‘to do’ list

01 February 2017

The transition team of new US president, Donald Trump, has compiled a list of around 50 major infrastructure projects seen as investment priorities.

The working document – which includes details of projects, including the renewal and renovation of highways, airports, dams and bridges – was recently sent to the Nationals Governor’s Association for vetting.

Another almost identical but more detailed document is also being circulated, although its origin is disputed, while Trump’s transition team claims its official document is a ‘working draft’.

Both documents outline what are being called “Emergency and National Security Projects” and include individual project costs and potential employment numbers.

The estimated cost of the 50 or so items on the official list is around US$ 137 billion, although, according to the more detailed draft, the government intends to fund construction on a public private partnership (PPP) basis, standing the cost of only 50% of each project.

Among the projects outlined are a new terminal for the Kansas City airport, upgrades to Interstate 95 in North Carolina and a proposal to replace the nation’s radar-based air traffic control system with one called NextGen, based on satellites.
