The Strabag led consortium, Kliplev Motorway Group (KMG) has won the tender for Denmark's first Public Private Partnership (PPP) project.

The consortium will plan and build 26 km of the M51 motorway from Kliplev to Sønderborg as well as 18 km of side roads and seven interchanges. The total investment for the project is € 148 million and KMG will operate the road for 26 years following completion.

CEO of Strabag, Hans Peter Haselsteiner, said, "We are focusing more on selected large projects outside of our previous core markets in Central and Eastern Europe.

"Scandinavia is a good example, where our expertise with technologically challenging projects in transportation infrastructure and tunnelling is increasingly in demand. Since 2008, we have been intensifying our investments in Scandinavia - and these investments are now bearing fruit," he said.

Several other motorway projects need to be realised in Denmark and, based on the experiences from the M51, further projects may now also be developed under a PPP model.

Mr Haselsteiner said, "Strabag generated € 33 million of revenue across Scandinavia in the 2008 financial year and we're already planning on € 220 million for 2009.
