Adanti, the Italian subsidiary of Austrian contractor Strabag, has partnered with Italian contractor Vittadello Intercantieri di Padova on a €161 million road-building project in Tuscany, Italy.

Adanti is the leader of the consortium, with a 65% share of the project - making the order worth €105 million for Strabag.

The project involves upgrading State Road 223 between the Tuscan cities of Grosseto and Siena. It includes the construction of six tunnels, the longest measuring 1.5km, while another will be 900m long and include piers up to 95m tall.

Strabag CEO Hans Peter Haselsteiner said, "Our subsidiary Adanti is well-positioned in the Italian infrastructure market and profits especially in northern Italy from the considerable need for modernisation in road construction."

Construction will start in the spring of 2012 and is set to last two and a half years.
