Speedy opens specialist centres in Scotland

Speedy in the UK has opened two new equipment rental depots in Scotland, consolidating a number of its previous smaller branches in the region to better meet the demand from local operators in the construction and offshore energy sectors.

The new Speedy Edinburgh depot replaces the city’s two smaller branches.

Joining a UK network of around 200 branches, the company’s new Aberdeen and Edinburgh centres aim to “help local contractors quickly access crucial equipment”.  

While both depots will provide tools, lifting equipment, plant, powered access machinery, and site survey services - and operate the Speedy four-hour delivery promise - for general construction contractors, they will also provide a selection of specialty equipment.

Like its recently opened specialist rail service centre in the East Anglia region of England, each of the new Scotland branches will also stock specialist equipment for a specific construction sector according to local market demands. 

Speedy Aberdeen Centre

Ryan McGurk, regional manager for Scotland at Speedy, said, “The new sites in Edinburgh and Aberdeen occupy strategic locations in each city. This means we’re now much more accessible for customers at busy times, with arterial connections ensuring deliveries land with customers fast, and well within our four-hour delivery promise.”

Speedy’s Aberdeen centre will have a stock of specialty lifting equipment for the offshore oil and gas companies operating in the North Sea.

Strategically located close to Aberdeen Harbour - an international cargo port and key logistical hub for the UK - the new 13,200sq ft (1,225m2) depot aims to take advantage of the growing demand from the oil, gas and offshore energy sectors.

While the Aberdeen Harbour already receives an average of 6,500 vessels each year, rising demand means the port is now undergoing a €410 million expansion, that will enable it to accommodate an even greater number of larger oil and cruise ships.

McGurk said, “Our new Aberdeen centre will bring our lifting services back into the city to meet significant local demand from the large base of companies supporting offshore operations.”

Speedy Edinburgh Centre

Similarly, Speedy’s new 22,000sq ft (2,050m²) Edinburgh centre, which is almost a third larger than the company’s two former sites in the city combined, will stock range of specialty air conditioning products to better support residential and commercial projects in urban areas.

“With the new base in Edinburgh, we’re well positioned to support contractors as they fulfil major housebuilding and infrastructure projects underway across the city region,” McGurk added.

With a combined staff of 44 employees - and new job positions expected to be created over the coming year - Speedy said the larger size of the centres will also enable it to provide customers with a number of training courses.

These will include both International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) and Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association (PASMA) training for safe working at height”.
