SNC-Lavalin’s delivery role on $5.5bn Calgary Green Line

SNC-Lavalin has won the role of delivery partner for the Calgary Green Line light rail transit (LRT), the largest infrastructure project in the Canadian city’s history.

The project management company will oversee the delivery of Phase 1 of the CAN$5.5 billion (US4.1 billion) scheme. It involves an 18km transit system connecting the existing Red and Blue LRT lines and four MAX bus rapid transit (BRT) routes.

The project will see the construction of 13 stations, as well as three park and ride facilities at Shepard, Douglas Glen and Lynwood/Millican stations.

There will be 1km of elevated track between 26 Avenue S.E. station and Ramsay/Inglwood station. Another 3km of line will run in a tunnel under Beltline and Downtown.

Meanwhile, the line will involve the construction of four bridges. They will cross the Elbow Rover, Bow Rover, Deerfoot Trail and Blackfoot Trail.

The government of Canada and the government of Alberta and City of Calgary have committed to finance the scheme.

SNC-Lavalin will support the City in delivering project functions such as commercial management, technical support, project controls, and construction management. The business has previously delivered rail projects in Vancouver, Montreal and Ottowa.
