Canada's SNC-Lavalin and Brazilian contractor Alusa Engenharia have set up a co-operation alliance focussing on large scale infrastructure engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) contracts and concession opportunities. The two companies are targeting the road and airport sectors in particular, looking for government work and projects related to the forthcoming FIFA World Cup and Rio Olympic Games.

The two companies hope to open a joint operations office in Sao Paulo by the end of the year.

SNC-Lavalin executive vice president Riadh Ben Aissa said, "This is a key alliance in SNC-Lavalin's strategy to partner with reputable Brazilian firms to further strengthen our presence in Brazil and put our design-build expertise and experience to work in different sectors of this important market."

Alusa vice president Guilherme Godoy Pereira added, "The Brazilian infrastructure market presents tremendous growth opportunities for this alliance with the PAC2 (Brazil Growth Acceleration Programme), the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympics. We view SNC-Lavalin as an ideal partner given its' solid world class expertise in designing, building and financing large projects in this sector."
