Contractor Skanska has won a deal in a joint venture with Black & Veatch to build a new facility for the United States Air Force at a base in the UK.

Skanska will deliver US Air Force European Infrastructure Consolidation (EIC) works for the US military based at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire.

Skanska’s part of the contract is worth £153 million (€178.5 million), which will be included in its order bookings for Europe for the third quarter of 2023.

Design work is set to start immediately, with construction on site due to start in the spring of 2023. The whole project is due to complete by the summer of 2028.

RAF Molesworth dates back to 1917 but its runway was closed in 1973. New facilities to support ground-launched cruise missile operations were constructed in the 1980s.

It is now a non-flying facility under the control of the US Air Force and is one of two RAF stations in Cambridgeshire currently used by the US Air Force.
