Skanska to lead Los Angeles metro extension

Skanska has won a US$ 383 million share in a joint venture contract to extend the light rail network in Los Angeles, California.

The design-build contract will be performed in a joint venture with Rados, with a 70% share for Skanska. Parsons Brinckerhoff will provide design services as a subcontractor to the joint venture.

Awarded by state agency the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the contract involves laying 14 miles (22.5 km) of track along a seven mile (11.3 km) route connecting Culver City to Santa Monica. The project, which also includes seven stations and 1 mile (1.6 km) of elevated track, is scheduled for completion in 2015.

Skanska said the light rail extension was its first transit project in Southern California and its largest project on the US West Coast to date. President of Skanska USA Mike McNally described the contract win as, "A clear sign of our willingness and ability to expand in the region".
