Skanska awarded first US stimulus contracts

Skanska has won its first fully funded American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) contracts worth US$ 95 million, (SEK 720 million) which will be included in order bookings for the third quarter.

The stimulus contracts will see the renovation and modernisation the Dr A.H. McCoy federal building in Jackson, Mississippi, and the George C. Young courthouse and federal building in Orlando, Florida, on behalf of the General Services Administration (GSA).

The 15-storey, 37200 m² renovation and modernisation project, of the Dr A.H. McCoy Federal Building in Jackson, worth US$ 60 million (SEK 455 million), will begin its fast-track, design assist programme later this month with completion set for the end of 2012.

In a statement from Skanska it said the facility will incorporate green design concepts to achieve LEED Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council.

Meanwhile, the six-storey, 17500 m² modernisation project at the George C. Young Courthouse and Federal Building in Orlando, Florida, worth US$ 35 million, (SEK 265 million) will begin in early 2010. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2012 and will also seek a LEED Silver certification.

Skanska said both of the projects will be focused upon delivering the goals of the 2009 Recovery Act.
