Salini Impregilo €4 billion rail scheme

A consortium including Salini Impregilo has signed an agreement for designing the Verona-Padua section of an Italian high-speed rail venture valued at a total of €4 billion.
Work on the 50km sub-section of the line is due to begin later in 2015, with a scheduled start date of December.
Funding of €1.5 billion for the section, running between the provinces of Verona and Vincenza, has already been achieved through the Italian Stability Law financing major public initiatives.
The scheme is part of the national government’s reported infrastructure priorities aiming to enable the progression of key rail and routes across the country.
According to Salini Impregilo, the new route will form a significant part of the Turin-Milan-Venice east west axis, and part of the Mediterranean corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (Ten-T).
Last summer, Salini had been appointed alongside Strabag to build the Brenner Base Tunnel through the Alps, which is part of the wider rail project connecting Munich, Germany and Verona.
