Polish win for Skanska consortium

09 July 2009

The GTC consortium, comprising Skanska (30%), John Laing Infrastructure (30%) NDI Autostrada (25%) and Intertoll Infrastructure Development (15%), has won the € 720 contract to finance, build and operate a 62 km stretch of the A2 motorway in Poland. The public private partnership (PPP) contract concession period is 30 years.

Construction will be carried out by a joint venture between Skanska (80%) and NDI (20%). Accordingly, Skanska will book its € 570 million share of the work in its accounts for the third quarter of the year.

Johan Karlström, president and CEO of Skanska said, "We have now secured financing and all necessary permits for the second phase. This means we have obtained a major assignment for the Polish construction operation."

The first phase of the A2, a 90 km stretch, is also being built by GTC. The first 26 km of the road was opened in 2007, a year ahead of schedule. This new contract will see the motorway extended from Tourn, some 100 km south of Gdansk, to Czerniewice. In total, GTC will be responsible for operating and maintaining a 152 km of the road until 2039.
