New Jersey, US plans new rail link

The US state of New Jersey is planning to construct a new 8.3 mile-long (13.35 km), US$ 150 to 200 million railway.

The railway, which includes nine stations a take three years to construct, will run from Hackensack to Hawthorne in the north of the state.

New Jersey (NJ) Transit, the state agency in charge of the rail system, said it expects to start construction later this year after reaching an agreement with the New York Susquehanna and Western Railway to operate the new service.

NJ Transit officials said the new railway line would help spur economic development in the area and lower congestion around Hackensack.
