Oracle, a database management company, has announced the expansion of its global network of industry innovation labs starting with the opening of a new facility just outside of Chicago, US.

The lab will explore connected ecosystems by leveraging new technology including visual progress monitoring, sensor-based tracking and digital twins.

Additionally, the lab will gather predictive insights to help mitigate potential schedule risks and improve project outcomes, by using Verizon’s 5G network to collaborate on large construction models.

The US-based company hopes the lab will provide an environment to develop new ideas and create solutions leveraging technology from Oracle and more than 30 of its partners.

In partnership with Verizon, both companies will explore how Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband can create and test 5G use cases to solve challenges in the industry — from carbon reduction to worker safety and sustainable building.

There are further plans for a UK-based sustainability and mobility-centred lab to open in Reading later this year as well as a construction-focused lab in Sydney, Australia.
