New city planned for Bahrain
14 July 2008
Developer Diyar al Muharraq has released the first images of its eponymous Diyar al Muharraq development, a proposed new city located on 2400 ha of reclaimed land off the north east coast of Bahrain.
The development, which will see the developer invest BHD 1.2 billion (US$ 3.2 billion) in infrastructure and land reclamation, will provide a mix of residential and commercial properties, including some "affordable housing" units.
It will also include five-star hotels, a shopping mall, a business district and landscaped public spaces alongside 44km of waterfront.
The first phase is expected to be complete in 2010, with the whole project taking 10 to 15 years to complete.
UK-based Scott Wilson has been appointed as consulting engineers to undertake the key functions of master planner, marine design and modelling, supervising engineer and environmental consultant.
