The city of Manchester in the UK is to get a new addition to its skyline, in the form of a new 40-storey tower called the Viadux.

A residential building designed by architects SimpsonHaugh, the Viadux tower is part of a £300 million (€352 million) regeneration project known as the Viadux project.

A joint venture company made up of Manchester-based property developer and private equity firm Salboy and Ask Real Estate will deliver the project.

Simon Ismail, co-founder and director of Salboy, said, “Viadux will benefit from our extensive construction expertise and residential development experience and will be the latest in a line of high-quality schemes we are delivering in the city region. Working with a partner of the calibre of Ask over the coming years will help create one of the most exciting mixed-use projects right in the heart of the city centre.”

The project, which also includes the building of a 14-storey office block, aims to transform the neighbouring railway arches and rejuvenate the area with around 22,300m² of commercial space, bars and restaurants.

John Hughes, managing director of Ask Real Estate, said, “Viadux brings back to life “hidden” space and with its unique characteristics, will transform this key location adjacent to Deansgate Castlefield Metrolink station, the Beetham Tower and Manchester Central Conference and Exhibition Centre.”

According to Salboy, the construction of the project will involve working around the existing tram line and Grade II listed arches. The build, which is expected to start in the spring of this year, will be carried out by Salboy’s partner construction firm Domis.
