London's €1.1 billion Olympia regeneration

Engineering consultancy Pell Frischmann has released new images of the London Olympia Exhibition Centre in Kensington, West London, UK.

The image features how the exhibition venue’s Central Towers will look after refurbishment works are completed.

Refurbishment of the historic site forms part of a €1.1 billion regeneration project that will see the existing exhibition halls and surrounding area, upgraded and improved.

The regeneration project will create 51,000 m2 of office and studio space at the Olympia Exhibition Centre and will include the construction of a four-screen arthouse cinema, a 1500-seat theatre and a 1,000-seat performing arts space.

Mike Hitchens, Pell Frischmann’s division director of structural and civil engineering, said, “We are excited to be working on the redevelopment of the Olympia estate, with its many challenges it is a real opportunity for us to show what we can do.”

Originally built in 1886 and known as the National Agricultural Hall, it is now one of London’s premiere venues. The Olympia exhibition centre hosts more than 220 exhibitions and events each year, including the ‘Olympia Horse Show’ and ‘Stylist Live’.

Hitchens said, “The site has a rich history and is an important landmark for UK industry and the local community – and the project will create the latest go-to destination in the capital with not just an exhibition centre but a wealth of public realm and creative facilities.”

Pell Frischmann, which is providing lead structural engineering services across the development, said the project would also comprise the construction of restaurants, shops, hotels and public spaces, including a sky garden.

Spearheaded by Deutsche Finance International and Yoo Capital, it is due for completion in 2023.
