L&T secures orders worth US$ 259 million

Indian construction company Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) said it had secured orders worth INR 11.64 billion (US$ 259 million) in its metallurgical, material handling and water operating division.

The orders range from water supply schemes and sewerage works to a steel annealing line.

The Mumbai-based firm said it had been awarded a contract worth US$ 116 million from Tata Steel to design and construct a continuous annealing and processing line for producing steel sheet.

L&T said the 600000 tonne per year line would produce high grade sheet for automotive applications, including skin panels and high tensile steel. The project would be implemented through a joint venture agreement between Tata Steel and technology partner Nippon Steel Engineering, according to L&T.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 30 months.

Meanwhile, L&T said its water and effluent treatment business unit had secured orders worth US$ 118 million from the Tamil Nadu water supply and drainage board for schemes in Hogenakkal in southern India.

This project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and involves supplying and laying a total 8007 km of piping.

The timeline for completion is 24 months, and L&T will operate and maintain the scheme for a further 60 months.

In another development, L&T said it received orders worth US$ 24.6 million from Punjab water supply and sewerage division for the construction of a sewerage network and sewage treatment plants in Hoshiarpur in north-east part of Punjab, and Jalandhar, which lies north-west of the state capital Chandigarh.

The project includes supplying and laying 356 km of pipes and the contract period is 12 months.
