UK-based contractor Kier has been appointed principal contractor for the first phase of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s new £300 million (€393.6 million) Swansea Waterfront Innovation Quarter.

The first phase is worth £26 million (€34.1 million) and aims to create 25 additional jobs for local people, as well as 250 apprenticeships.

Phase one includes the construction of the Faculty of Architecture, Computing & Engineering building, as well as a new library building, with an approximate area of 12,200 m².

Phase one will begin in autumn this year and aims to be complete for the start of the academic year in 2018.

Jason Taylor, Kier operations director for South Wales, said, “Early involvement helps us to develop a true understanding of the University’s aspirations and challenges.”
