12 January 2015

An agreement of €607 million has been signed for the third lot of the Terzo Valico Genoa-Alessandria high-speed rail link improving connections between Northern Italy and the rest of Europe.

The scheme, which has an overall value of €6.2 billion is being delivered by consortium led by Salini Impregilo and has been divided into six lots totalling 53km of line, including 37km of tunnels.

Passing through 12 municipalities in the provinces of Genoa and Alessandria, work on the project is scheduled to begin in June. The consortium behind it is known as COCIV and consists of three firms - Salini Impregilo, Societa Italiana Condotte and CIV.

The project forms part of the Rhine-Alpline corridor, linked to the Trans-European Transportation Network (TEN-T), enhancing connections between some of the continent’s key industrial regions.

Work on the Terzo Valico Genoa-Alessandria link is part of wider high speed rail development in Italy, with Salini having agreed designs for the Verona-Padua section of the line that is being constructed from December 2015.
