How to combat construction equipment theft

Over the years, theft, whether it relates to construction, agriculture or associated industries has been a constant battle ground between owners and thieves.

This year’s Combined Industries Theft Solutions (CITS) conference; ‘2022: Will you be a victim?’, will take place on the 18th November 2021, at JCB Headquarters in Staffordshire, UK, and will explore recent challenges faced by industry.

Efforts made by the security products industry to safeguard plant and machinery has resulted in the development of new techniques and technologies; and through the relationships the CITS Board has forged between Trade Associations, Major Contractors, CESAR, Insurers, Finance Houses and the new ACE/OPAL police unit, has all helped to successfully reduce theft.

However, we can never be complacent - thieves are continuing to apply new strategies. In recent months, CITS has noticed a surge in frauds perpetrated by individuals and organised criminal gangs; whether this is:-

• aided by employees within the victim’s organisation; or, 
  
  
• individuals who present fake documentation; or,
  
  
• IT infiltration into the victim’s organisation with the intention to transfer monies into fake accounts.
  
  
• The methods are varied from simplistic to complex and the event will explore the threats in detail.

The conference will be split into two sessions, starting with an industry event, followed by a police only event.

Both sessions will take an informed look at how the construction and agricultural sectors can take proactive steps to reduce the risk of theft, particularly at a time when scarce resources and competing policing priorities leave the industry vulnerable.

The conference will feature guest speakers from Government, including an opening address from keynote speaker Kit Malthouse – Minister for Policing and Crime, Senior Police officials, plus leading figures in the construction, agriculture and security industries.
