Hong Kong’s Gammon Construction, which is 50% owned by Balfour Beatty, has been awarded a HK$ 8.66 billion (US$ 1.1 billion) contract to design and build the Southern Connection Viaduct Section of the Tuen Mun to Chek Lap Kok Link (TM-CLKL).

The government highways contract is the largest solo civil engineering contract ever awarded to Gammon Construction.

The work on the Southern Connection Viaduct Section, which is part of the 9 km long TM-CLKL, includes the design and construction of a 1.6 km dual two-lane sea viaduct between the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao-Bridge, Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities and North Lantau, as well as the construction of nine smaller approach viaducts. Work will start this month and is scheduled for completion by April 2017.

The project is expected to generate more than 1,500 local jobs.
