Hong Kong bridge boundary building contract awarded

28 April 2014

A joint venture between Leighton Asia and Chun Wo has been awarded a AU$ 1.16 billion (US$ 1.07 billion) contract to build boundary crossing facilities for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Passengers entering and leaving Hong Kong via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge will clear customs and immigration through the planned 30 m tall Hong Kong Passenger Clearance Building.

Awarded by the Hong Kong Government Highways Department, the project will be built on 130 ha of reclaimed land to the east of Chek Lap Kok, adjacent to Hong Kong’s International airport. Construction started in April and is expected to be finished by the end of 2016.

The scope of the 80:20 Leighton-led joint venture’s work for the building includes bored pile foundations, reinforced concrete structure, profiled steel roof, curtain walling and glazing, architectural finishes and mechanical and electrical work.
