Holcim's record year
07 March 2008
Holcim’s sales increased +12,7% last year to CHF 27,1 billion (€ 16,9 billion). The company’s net profit rose +57,2% to CHF 4,5 billion (€2,8 billion), although CHF 1,3 billion (€ 810 million) of this was attributable to the sale of a stake in its South African business.
Holcim says it delivered 149,6 million tonnes of cement in 2007, compared to 140,7 million tonnes the previous year. Sales of aggregates were level with 2006 at 187.9 million tonnes, although the company points out it achieved this in the face of a declining US market. Ready-mixed concrete sales rose to 45,2 cubic metres, from 44,2 cubic metres in 2006, while asphalt sales fell to 14,8 million tonnes, from 15,3 million tonnes in 2006.
Commenting on this record year, a company statement said, “Although economic conditions became more challenging in the second half of the year, the group’s fundamental strengths were in full evidence. This is demonstrated by strong internal operating EBITDA growth of +10,8% and a marked improvement in net income.”
As a result, Holcim’s Board has proposed its dividend be increased from CHF 2,00 (€ 1,25) to CHF 3,30 (€ 2,06). This decision will be put to Holcim’s Annual General Meeting on 7 May.
